Tired of the usual boring museums with generic and sub-standard exhibitions? Looking for something a little different to do on your day off? Then you my friend should check out the Hunterian Surgical Museum, just off from Holborn Tube station. The museum is a little different from your average and definitely not for the squeamish. An inspiring and morbidly captivating day that you’re not going to forget in a hurry, that takes you into the very depths of Victorian anatomy and surgical techniques as well as the more modern looks. With an astounding collection of exhibits and samples the Huntarian is one of the more complete museums of its kind. A fascinating and different kind of day out. Image: perpetualplum 2010-09-27
Ok so I’m a nerd. This is abundantly clear. But what people often fail to recognise, and this blog of mine alone is perhaps not the most considerate of this, is that us Nerds are often interested in a lot more than just plain old computer games and comic books. We are actually quite fond of being thrifty. In fact, we are also god damn good at it, not to mention efficient – although I imagine you have already guessed that that attribute probably comes with the territory. So here is some advice for fellow thrifty nerd searchers or even just for those that lead healthy sociable lives and are just worried about the recession. Quite likely the majority of you. Anyway, here’s the carrot. Reassess all your general day to day payments on things like television, internet and phone bills. You are probably paying through the nose and you don’t even know it. A simple search of broadband comparison on google for example will reveal a whole new world of goods, that don’t just ask you to smell the coffee, but rub it right up your nostrils. If you are looking to lower your spending in 2011 then this is surely your first and most important move. Do it and do it now. Flickr: lippert61
We know that we shouldn’t still be playing with lego but....this is Han Solo. Not just that but, this is Han Solo encased in Carbonite just like the films. This is like the greatest nerd alert lego fantasy ever set in plastic. So forgive us for getting a bit excited will you...jeeez. Image: lego han solo
It seems that daily medical science is becoming more and more the stuff of science fiction and we shouldn’t be surprised by the often astounding breakthroughs made. This however is so amazing that it seems hard to believe. Doctors have developed a special technique which could save victims of violent crime or road accidents, effectively bringing them back from the dead. The method involves pumping ice cold fluid into the veins and main arteries of a victim to rapidly cool down the body. This then induces a state of advanced hypothermia which slows brain and heart activities, and prolonging the life of the victim. Essentially slowing down the victims internal clock. This then gives doctors vital extra minutes to perform procedures intrinsic to saving lives. Sounds ahem, cool huh? Image: Ko_An
